King George County Grading Scale
A 90-100
B 80-89
C 70-79
D 60-69
F 59 and below
Homework
All assignments are due at the beginning of the period. Homework will either be collected for a grade, or
checked for completion. All problems must be attempted
to receive full credit
(5
points when checked for completion and 5-15 points
when collected and graded). Work must be shown
to
receive credit. Homework must be done in pencil
or no credit will be given for that assignment. There will be no partial
credit for homework. Absent
students must make up missing
assignments within 5 days of being
absent. Late homework
will only be accepted with a pass.
Tests and Quizzes
Generally, there will be a test following each unit and quizzes throughout the unit. Tests are worth
100 points and quizzes range from 20-60
points. Students are expected to show all necessary work to
receive full credit.
Classwork
Students will periodically have graded
classwork assignments. Students will have a Math Talks activity on most days to complete
upon entering the room and can also expect to have exit tickets
or other short assessments throughout the week. Classwork assignments will be 5-20 points, depending on length.
Binders
Each student
is required to have a l-inch binder or a section
for
Math within a larger
binder. This will be
used to hold notes, homework,
classwork, quizzes/tests and daily problems
(Math Talks). Students
should keep these separated in different sections in their binders using either dividers, tabs or sticky notes.
Calculators
In Math 8, when allowed,
students will have access to calculator. Homework is to be completed
with/without a calculator as instructed. Students
will be assigned a calculator to use within the
classroom but should have access
to a calculator with basic
functions at home.
Passes
Each 9-week
grading period, students
will receive 3 homework passes. The
homework pass may be attached to a completed, late assignment to receive full credit for the late work. If a student
has no zeros for homework grades,
any unused passes may be turned in at the end of the grading period for extra
credit.
Each 9-week grading period,
students will also receive 4 bathroom passes. Any unused
passes may be turned in at the end of the grading
period for extra credit.
Parent Portal
This is the best way to check student
progress. Parent Portal should
be checked on a regular basis.
This shows current grades as well as missing assignments. Please be sure to read any comments
that are noted in the gradebook.
Website
The class website will be operational by the end of the first week of school. This
can be found by going to
the KGMS website under
contact us. This will be updated weekly and will contain
homework as well as daily topics to be covered.
